Red Barn Espresso Stout

Oatmeal Sout with Coffee

A collaborative effort between CBC and our friends at Red Barn Coffee Roasters in Upton, MA,
Red Barn Espresso Stout is a very rich, full-bodied oatmeal stout infused with a custom-roasted blend of organic coffee beans. Coffee roaster (and CBC buddy) Justin Hawkins spent many hours getting us good and wired, er, training our palates, and together we created a blend of Fair Trade Certified Organic beans from the western slopes of Costa Rica and eastern Cordilleras of Colombia, plus a hefty percentage of Ethiopian Moka Harar. Ethiopia is the reputed birth place of coffee, the only place on earth where the coffee plant originally grew. This blend of beans was then hand-roasted to create a brew to complement the roast/caramel/oatmeal character in our stout.

Subtle espresso aromas greet the nose, while a tight crema-like head sits atop this opaque glass of pure darkness. On the palate, very soft caramel-sweetened coffee notes with hints of dark chocolate, wine, and florals mingle with roasted barley and aromatic malts.
The super-smooth mouthfeel is thanks to contributions from flaked oats and barley, which lead to a finish nicely balanced between perfect acidity
and lingering roasted notes from coffee and barley.
CBC is proud to work with Red Barn in supporting organically- and sustainably –grown and harvested ingredients for this very special beer.
